HISTORICAL FIFE LAKE
Fife Lake is an authentic Northern Michigan village named for
William Fife in 1872. The village began as a lumbering town,
fueled by the operation of the Grand Rapids and Indiana
Railroad. Today, there are many ways for visitors to step back
into the past and learn about Fife Lake’s rich history. |

Recently, the Fife Lake Historical society was able to purchase the
historic one-room schoolhouse. The one-room school house will serve as a
welcome center for Fife Lake visitors. In addition to traditional
welcome materials, the building will feature historical desks, books,
and other educational materials as part of a historical school display.
TOUR THE HISTORIC FIFE LAKE FIRE BARN
The historic Fife Lake fire barn was home to the volunteer firefighting
team in the 1880s. Today, the building houses an original fire truck,
authentic firemen’s uniforms, and large wheeled firefighting equipment.
The fire barn is open for tours from 1-4 pm on Wed, Sat, and Sun during
the summer.
BIG NEWS!
Recently, the Historical Society had the opportunity to purchase the
historic one-room school house. This will allow the museum to expand its
display and reopen a beautiful historic building for visitors. However,
in order to fully take advantage of this opportunity, the Historical
Society needs your help! The Society will be asking for tax-deductible
pledges over the next three years to cover the cost of this new purchase
and maintain the Historical Museum. For more information, please inquire
at the museum or call 231-879-3342.
