Hello Neighbor,
Hopefully, you are aware of the tremendous success of the spring 2006
Milfoil treatment. Over 180 acres were treated. As a result, fishermen
are catching fish, boats can use the lake without damaging their motors,
swimming and water skiing is safer and more enjoyable.
However, as expected, some milfoil has reappeared this August; 66 acres
were just treated on 8/24/06. However, an estimated 40 ACRES STILL
REMAIN untreated AND our association is NOW OUT OF MONEY!
We feel it is better to aggressively treat the remaining milfoil before
it spreads any further. This will decrease the cost in the long run. We
know how successful the fall treatment was last year on the East side of
the lake. It was so successful, in fact, that there was hardly any
milfoil present during the spring and most of the summer in that area of
the lake. This encourages us to stay on top of the problem for the rest
of the lake.
In addition to working on our short term problem, we are seeking
government funding for our long term treatment program. We are also
preparing for a SPECIAL ASSESSMENT DISTRICT in the event other funding
sources fail to materialize. The first step is to get the lakefront
property owners signed up. This project is already underway and you are
being asked to join us by signing the Special Assessment District
petitions when they come around.
We cannot wait for the time it will take to get funding from other
sources or to set up a special assessment district. We need to
treat the lake NOW! We know that we have already asked you for a
donation this year and we are GREATLY APPRECIATIVE to all who responded.
But we need to do more and do it swiftly. Therefore, we are asking
all property owners for an additional $100 to cover the cost for
treating the remaining 40 acres of Milfoil yet this season. Please
send in your contribution by 9/15/06 to the address below or give
directly to any FLLPOA board member. Thanks!
