The Election Commission of Joles, Sorrow & Houts met at 5:45PM to approve the election inspectors for the August 5th Primary Election.
Motion by Houts, 2nd by Sorrow to approve G.Gonyer, J.Thompson, P.Wood, L.Wood, M.Voice, W.Wilson,C.Spalding,Barbara Meyer, E. Kirkpatrick. Passed.
The monthly meeting of the Fife Lake Township Board was called to order with the Pledge of Allegiance by Supervisor Joles.

Minutes of Budget Workshop: Motion by Ingersoll, 2nd by Joles to approve. Passed
Minutes of 5-22-08 Regular Meeting: Motion by Sorrow, 2nd by Ingersoll to approve. Passed.
Claims List: Motion by Sorrow, 2nd by Ingersoll to approve payment. Passed
Treasurers Report: Motion by Houts to accept for audit, 2nd by Ingersoll. Passed.

Reports:
County Commissioner: None
Sheriff: Deputy Sommerfield gave his report, noting “summer is here”. Problems at racetrack, break-in at Pharmacy and Ordinance violations were included.
Fire: Chief Gibson gave report.
Sewer: Sorrow gave report including 3% raise for Middaugh.
Ambulance: Chief Gibson gave report.
Planning/Zoning: Houts gave report for Erickson. Building Permits totaling $6,019 for June. Expecting (2) houses to go into Cedar Ridge in July.
The Chamber of Commerce is asking for a Zoning Variance to install (2) signs on 131.
They have asked to be forgiven the $400 fee required for the Zoning Board of Appeal
Houts indicated it takes a minimum of $225 to have this meeting. Motion by Sorrow, 2nd by Ingersoll to forgive $175. Passed. The clerk was instructed to issue a check in that amount.
Meeting adjourned for Budget/Hayes Tax Abatement/Milfoil District Public Hearings.
Budget Hearing: Opened at 6:10PM.
Supervisor Joles explained format of 08/09 Budget.
No comments/concerns from the audience.
Hayes Manufacturing Tax Abatement Hearing: Opened at 6:18PM.
Supervisor Joles explained application. BATA and Forest Area Schools did not have any opposition to the application. Penny Chalender appeared, representing Hayes Manufacturing, indicating there would be approximately three (3) additional employees.
Milfoil Tax Rate Assessment for 2008: Opened at 6:24PM.
Supervisor Joles indicated the current per unit cost is $382 per unit. He also explained what treatment had been applied until this point. John Strowbridge of the Weed Treatment Commission felt it was too early to give an accurate idea of how the treatment is working; perhaps in October there would be a better idea of where we are. Treasurer Sorrow said we could wait until then and still get it on the winter tax bills.
Regular meeting reconvened at 6:33PM.
Supervisor Joles read resolution (attached) and made a motion to adopt the Proposed Budget for 2008/2009. Not to include the Milfoil Special Assessment at this time, 2nd by Ingersoll.

Supervisor Joles read the resolution (attached) regarding the Hayes Manufacturing Tax Abatement Application. Motion by Sorrow to adopt same, 2nd by Ingersoll.

Adopted.
Milfoil Special Assessment District Hearing: Motion by Houts, 2nd by Sorrow to table the hearing until the October meeting. Passed
Board of Review: Two to four new members will be needed starting in December, as two terms are expiring. Supervisor Joles indicated he has spoken to a few citizens and will present them at that time. Any resident can serve and applications can be secured from the Clerk.
Rental Rates – Rural Fire & Ambulance Authority: Motion by Ingersoll, 2nd by Sorrow to increase the rental to both entities to $1,500 per quarter. Passed. The Ambulance Authority has asked for utility costs. The clerk will provide same.
Citizen Comments: Linda Forwerck reported on the DDA and also announced she will be working with the COA. Contact her for any information.
Robert Meyer inquired about a Headley Rollback. Supervisor Joles explained what would be on the Ballot for August.
Glen Stein indicated he has dock access on lot 82 per his deed. He will provide the Board with a copy.
Board Comment: Houts indicated we would like to go out for bids on various Cemetery projects. Motion by Joles, 2nd by Sorrow to do so. Passed.
Houts advised we have not received paperwork in order to issue a check for Civic Center South. Joles will look into it.
Motion to adjourn by Sorrow, 2nd by Joles. Passed. Meeting adjourned at 6:55PM.
